“We have seen a significant jump in sales in this IPL season,” said Mr Vikram Mehra, chief marketing officer at Tata Sky. Being an unlisted company Tata Sky does not disclose its monthly growth figures, but Mr Mehra said the company subscriber base crossed the five million mark recently.
“We expect the momentum to continue mainly due to other sporting events such as the T-20 World Cup and the Fifa World Cup in the next 120 days,” Mr Mehra said.
Interestingly, Tata Sky also attributed the increased sales to the examination season. “We have seen over 50 per cent jump in sales of our Tata Sky Plus, which has a recording facility,” Mr Mehra said.
Tata Sky's research shows that parents have bought Tata Sky Plus to record the favourite programmes of their children during the examination season.
